Hall 5 Parallel Session

Description:
This session is designed for healthcare providers who care for patients with lung diseases or respiratory issues. The interactive, hands-on format will equip participants with practical, evidence-based skills for performing and interpreting pulmonary function tests (PFTs).

Through this session, you will:

  • Gain an in-depth understanding of the principles and techniques for conducting common PFT modalities, such as spirometry, lung volume assessment, and diffusion capacity measurement.
  • Develop hands-on proficiency in operating PFT equipment and administering accurate tests according to standardized guidelines.
  • Learn to interpret PFT results and recognize patterns indicative of different respiratory disorders, including obstructive, restrictive, and mixed lung diseases.
  • Identify potential sources of error and troubleshoot common artifacts in PFT data collection and analysis.
  • Integrate PFT findings with clinical history and other diagnostic data to formulate appropriate differential diagnoses and management plans.

Instructor:     Lars Kuettel (Germany)

Hall 2 Parallel Session

Description:

  • Through a multiple case-based review format with an audience response system attendees will identify and discuss common diagnostic and treatment errors that can occur in the practice of sleep medicine.
  • Develop strategies to recognize, mitigate, and prevent these errors in order to enhance the quality of care for patients with sleep disorders.
  • Implement evidence-based best practices to optimize the diagnosis and management of various sleep disorders.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the indications, contraindications, and patient selection criteria for initiating NIV in patients with pneumonia and fibrotic lung disease.
  • Develop proficiency in setting up and adjusting NIV equipment, including the selection of appropriate interfaces, monitoring parameters, and troubleshooting common issues.
  • Practice the clinical decision-making and management strategies required to optimize the delivery of NIV and monitor patient response in simulated scenarios of pneumonia and fibrotic lung disease.
